EVALUATION OF PROTOPORPHYRINOGEN OXIDASE ACTIVITY-INHIBITING ABILITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for evaluating protoporphyrinogen oxidase activity-inhibiting ability of a compound. SOLUTION: This method for evaluating protoporphyrinogen oxidase activity- inhibiting ability of a compound comprises (1) a step for culturing a transformant obtained by introducing a promoter capable of functioning in a host cell and DNA fragment in which protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene is bound in a form capable of functioning into a host cell in which proliferating ability based on protoporphyrinogen oxidase activity is lost and expressing the protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene which exists in the DNA fragment in the presence or absence of a compound to be examined in a culture medium in which a compound complementing deletion of proliferating ability based on protoporphyrinogen oxidase activity is not substantially contained and measuring proliferation degree of the transformant under each conditions and (2) a step for obtaining proliferation inhibiting degree of the transformant by contact with the compound to be examined based on the difference of the proliferation degree and judging protoporphyrinogen oxidase activity inhibiting ability of the compound to be examined.
