PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve a shortage of the suction capacity of a pressure pump without increasing the capacity of a feed pump. SOLUTION: A suction passage 17 branches out into an auxiliary suction passage 23 whose one end is connected to a pump chamber 14, in which auxiliary suction passage an accumulator 24 is interposed. The auxiliary suction passage 23 is provided in its upstream-half section with a first check valve 25 that permits only a flow from a feed pump 2 to the accumulator 24, and also in its downstream-half section with a second check valve 26 that permits only a flow from the accumulator 24 to the pump chamber 14. While a plunger 13 is at a compression stroke, the fuel that is fed from the feed pump 2 opens the first check valve 25 and flows into the accumulator 24 where it is stored. During a plunger suction stroke, the fuel within the accumulator 24 in turn opens the second check valve 26 and flows into the pump chamber 14. |
