PURPOSE:To obtain the animal fat or oil reduced in the content of cholesterol by dissolving the animal fat or oil in a mixed solvent system to separate the fat or oil into a cholesterol-removed animal fat or oil fraction and into a cholesterol-containing fraction and subsequently removing the solvents from the former fraction. CONSTITUTION:An animal fat or oil preferably comprising lard, tallow, fish oil, milk fat or their processed product is dissolved in a mixed solvent system and subsequently fed into a false movement type chromatographic separator to separate the fat or oil into a cholesterol-removed animal fat or oil fraction and into a cholesterol-containing fraction. The resultant cholesterol-removed animal fat or oil fraction is subjected to the removal of the organic solvent to provide the objective fat or oil. |
