[Also in Divisions F1 and H1] A dashpot 74 for restricting closure of an I.C. engine throttle valve 2 comprises a spring-biased diaphragm 78 defining with a housing a pair of chambers 74A and 74B and carrying an adjustable rod 80 for engagement with a plate 72 secured to a member 64 secured to the throttle valve. The chamber 74A is connected through connections 75 and 18 to the I.C. engine intake duct 1 and the diaphragm 78 is moved against the bias of the spring 76 by the vacuum in chamber transmitted from the intake duct. An aperture 77 in the diaphragm 78 restricts the flow of air from the chamber 74B into the chamber 74A when the diaphragm is moved by engagement of the plate 72 with the rod 80 on throttle valve closure. An adjustable rod 81 limits the movement of the diaphragm 78 under spring bias. The dashpot, Fig. 4 (not shown), may have a rod (85) biased outwardly of the diaphragm housing by a spring (83), the inward movement of the rod being restricted by air flow through an aperture (86) in the housing. The operation of the dashpot may be controlled by air flow into a diaphragm chamber (111), Fig. 5 (not shown), through a housing aperture (113). A ball check valve (126), Fig. 5, may be provided to facilitate air flow from the chamber (111). |
