Delays and advances the start of a trigger signal for a ramp function. The deflection control device (12) for horizontal sweep control of a cathode ray tube (3) at a set frequency includes a section (9) for providing a succession of current ramps to a horizontal deflection system. The current at the start of each ramp is at a negative value, opposed to the positive value at the end of the preceding ramp. There is a section (5) which provides a periodic reference signal corresponding to the sweep frequency, and a unit (7) to trigger each ramp start, according to a predetermined time relationship, with the reference signal.
