1,262,204. Boots &c. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 3 Sept., 1970 [5 Sept., 1969], No. 44053/69. Heading A3B. In making a shoe having no insole in the forepart region the lasting margin is wiped across the bottom of the last 6 in this region and is consolidated in its wiped condition by the hardening of thermoplastic material 14 previously applied to the last bottom, any bond formed between lasting margin and the last bottom being easily breakable. The last bottom may have a metal sole plate which does not bond to the thermoplastic material or may be coated with a release agent. As described an upper 10 is lasted in conventional manner in the heel and waist region to a part insole 2 having a shank stiffener 4. Thermoplastic adhesive 14 e.g. a molten polyester adhesive is then applied to the forepart region of the last bottom and the lasting margin is wiped inwardly, the thermoplastic material flowing between the pleats and folds of the inwiped lasting margin so that when it hardens the lasting margin is held in its wiped position. The lasting margin is then roughened and an outsole (not shown) is provided. The outsole may be preformed and bonded to the lasted upper by adhesive or may be moulded directly onto the bottom of the lasted upper. The last is then removed from the shoe and an insock is placed inside the shoe. |
