The invention relates to benzothiepine-1,1-dioxide derivatives and their acid addition salts, i.e. compounds of formula (I) wherein R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5> and Z have the meanings given in the description and their physiologically compatible salts and physiologically functional derivatives. The invention also relates to a method for producing said compounds, which are suitable for use as e.g. hypolipidaemics.
