The invention relates to a method for cruise control of an automotive vehicle, including: determination of a target value (vtar) stating a desired velocity of the vehicle, determination of an actual value (vact) stating the current speed of the vehicle, repeated calculation of an integrated control factor (Ip<(n)>) in dependence of the current difference between said actual value (vact) and said target value (vtar), and generation of an output signal ( alpha ) from a control unit (1) in dependence of the size of said control factor (Ip<(n)>), said output signal ( alpha ) being utilised for controlling the vehicle engine (2) to a corresponding output torque. The invention is characterised by including a limitation of said integrated factor (Ip<(n)>) to a maximum value, preselected in dependence of the current rotational speed (n) of said engine (2). The invention also relates to a device for cruise control. Thanks to the invention, an improved cruise control is provided, with an optimum tuning of said integrated control factor.
