Fossil-fuel steam generator

The steam generator (2) has a combustion chamber (4) for a fossil fuel (B) with a horizontal flue section (6) leading to a vertical flue section (8). The burners (30) within the combustion chamber are positioned at the same height as the horizontal flue section. The burners may be incorporated in one end wall (14) of the combustion chamber, with a spacing from the horizontal flue section which is at least equal to the maximum flame length when the steam generator is operating at full load.
