The detector has an ultrasound head inserted in a body aperture, with an ultrasound probe (2) incorporated in a pivoted front end section (1a), for lateral scanning of an internal organ, e.g. the liver. The rear section (1b) of the ultrasound head has an instrument insertion opening (4), with its end angled to the central axis of the ultrasound head in the opposite direction to the pivot movement of the front end section.
