Cleaning solution (A) comprises: (i) 40-98 vol. % bromohydrocarbon (I); and (ii) 2-60 vol. % ester (II). Independent claims are also included for: (a) a cleaning solution (B) consisting of an ester selected from ethyl acetate (IIA) and tert.-butyl acetate (IIB) and a bromohydrocarbon selected form n-propyl bromide (IA) and isopropyl bromide (IB), which contains >= 2 vol. % ester; and (b) preparing a high tension, heavy current cable for splicing.
