The invention relates to the use of selenium and/or a derivative thereof in conjunction with one or more cytostatic agents. The aim of the invention is to intensify the effect of anti-tumour agents and to provide these agents in a suitable form of administration. To this end, selenium and/or at least one selenium compound is used to intensify the effect of one or more cytostatic agents. This combination results in a synergistic, i.e., superadditive reinforcement of the effect. The invention also relates to a kit containing selenium and/or at least one selenium compound and one or more cytostatic agents, in the form of a combination preparation for use in cytostatic therapy. The invention can be used effectively against various types of tumour, however especially against large and small-cell bronchial carcinomas, glandular carcinomas, pancreatic carcinomas, prostate carcinomas and hypernephromas.
