<p>A multi-functional cam system for controlling movement of a portion of a machine (100) performing repetitive operations. A cam (50) has a contour (52) designed to control at least two different sequences of motion for a mechanism (72 and 73) driven by the cam (50). The desired sequence of motion is obtained by clocking the cam (50) on its shaft (80) to the position corresponding with that sequence of motion, then locking the position of the cam (50) relative to the shaft (80). The mechanism that attaches the cam (50) to the shaft (80) includes a two-part hub (72 and 73), the two parts (72 and 73) being axially clampable, a sleeve (60) attached to the cam (50), the sleeve (60) having a portion that is clamped between the hub parts (72 and 73), and a radially expandable locking device (82) operating between the first hub part (72) and the shaft (80). The locking mechanism includes a sleeve tab (66) extending axially from the sleeve (60), and at least two hub tabs (74 and 75) extending radially from the first hub part (72). The sleeve tab (66) and the hub tabs (74 and 75) are designed and arranged to interfere with rotation of the sleeve (60) relative to the first hub part (72) and to locate one of the hub tabs (74 and 75) adjacent the sleeve tab (66) for each of the positions of the cam (50) relative to the shaft (80).</p> |
