The distributed computers (204) are coupled to a network (206) using a multiple CPU server (200). The server has multiple clusters (208) that are connected by lines with redundancy (211). The information is transmitted with a sequence number and acknowledgments are returned. A first computer actives one of a number of communication connections and transmits messages to a second computer. Each message is assigned a sequence number, added to the message when it is transmitted to second computer. At second computer, received message has sequence number information of each received and processed message stored and acknowledgment message is stored to memory of first computer. First computer carries out remedial action to determine if second computer has processed previously send, unacknowledged message, if there is a failure to receive acknowledgment message of previously sent message. Remedial action determines if second computer has received message and if not, message is retransmitted.
