<p>Iron or steel are obtained from iron ores by direct reduction from burnt sulphide ores, iron ores, (e.g. pyrites or pyrrhotites). The non-ferrous metal contents are so reduced by chlorinating volatilisation that sufficient non-ferrous metal (pref. Cu or Co) is left as residue, to seed the iron formation during the reduction of iron oxide, accelerate the reduction speed and lower the reduction temperature. Spec., a one-shaft furnace with a number of zones of known construction is used for the chlorinating volatilisation process.</p> |
