Paint in water is denatured by including in the water a compound of the formula NR 1 R 2 R 3 in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are the same or different and are hydrogen, hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyalkoxyalkyl groups containing from 2 to 10 carbon atoms (at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 being other than hydrogen) such that the compound has a boiling point of at least 100‹ C. and a molecular weight of not more than 500 and an alkali metal hydroxide, silicate, phosphate or carbonate or a mixture thereof. An extensive list of examples of the amino compound is given. The pH of the water may be adjusted to be within the range 9-12À8.</p> |
