The piston has a piston ring groove (2) with sides protected against wear. At least one of the sides has a reinforcement (3) of ceramic material in the section next to its outer edge. The reinforcement consists of filling in a holder pocket (4) formed by a groove, which is open at the top. It has a width of at least 1.5mm, a depth of max. 2/3 of the groove depth, a thickness of 0.25-0.30mm, and consists of a chrome-ceramic material.
