The invention relates to a controlling device for controlling the drive (40) for a useful load (10), for example a tool or a work piece, in a machining device (80) comprising a specified value sensor (50), a measuring device (20) which serves as an actual value sensor, and at least one comparator (60) for comparing specified and actual values and for generating a drive control signal. The aim of the invention is to obtain a highly precise control also in the case of a less rigid structure or to increase the precision of control in the case of a rigid structure in such a known control device. To this end, the invention provides that the measuring device (20) is arranged separate from the drive (40) at least in the proximity of the useful load (10). Since, in this manner, the state of movement or the position of the useful load is detected separate from the drive, vibrations which are exerted on the motor foundation by the motor cannot affect the measuring device. The invention also relates to a machining device which is equipped with the described control device and to a corresponding control method.
