Disclosed is a device for determining rotational speed. Rotational speed is determined from the torque measured on the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. Since torque fluctuates according to the gas force or combustions dependent upon the angle of rotation, rotational speed (n) is calculated according to periods of time (T), whereby the number of cylinders (Z) is taken into account. Evaluation and calculation of signals is normally carried out in the control unit of the internal combustion engine.
