<p>Hydrazobenzenes are prepd. by Na amalgam redn. of nitrobenzenes of the benzene series contg. no substituent which forms by-products on redn. in the presence of cpds. insol. or sparingly sol. in NaOH solns. but readily sol. in water or dil. acids and of formula: X-(-NY-R)n-NXY (X and Y are the same or different H, 1-6C alkyl; R = a 2-6C bifunctional aliphatic residue; n = 1-10). Pref. nitrobenzene, 2-nitrotoluene, 2-nitro-anisole, or 2-methoxy-5-methylnitrobenzene are reduced in presence of diethylene-triamine or 3-nitro-chlorobenzene in presence of 1,4-diaminobutane.</p> |
