In a synthetic resin molded surface fastener (1), each of a multiplicity of engaging elements (3) has a stem (3a) standing on a front surface of a substrate sheet (2) and a horizontally expandable and shrinkable engaging head (3b) continuously formed on and horizontally bulging from an upper end of the stem (3a). The engaging head (3b) is divided into two or more segments (3b') resiliently bendable toward and away from one another. When the engaging head (3b) engages a respective one of engaging heads of a companion surface fastener, each of protuberances (4) projecting from the front surface of the substrate sheet (2) centrally between four adjacent ones of the engaging elements (3) comes into the gap between the segments (3b') to bend the segments (3b') away from one another, increasing the entire diameter of the engaging head (3b) so that the engaging elements (3) can be engaged with those of the companion surface fastener stably without rattling. <IMAGE> |
