Allows precise location of fault without extensive work on all section of network. The network comprises a number of computers or stations connected to the central unit via at least one bus. The buses consist of a number of conductive wires. The procedure for locating short circuits within the buses includes two stages of measuring the resistance, once from each end of the bus. The next stage involves calculating the distance of the short circuit from one end of the bus as a function of these measurements, and the known impedance of the whole bus. The final stage involves comparing this distance with the known values of bus length which interconnect successive stations on the network, to locate the short circuit fault. An Independent claim is included for a device for implementing the method.
|
