A free-machining aluminum-copper-magnesium alloy, containing tin as chip-breaking additive, is new. An aluminum-copper-magnesium alloy with good machinability contains 0.7-1.5 wt. % tin as chip-breaking additive. Preferred Features: The alloy has the composition (by wt.) 3.9-5.2% Cu, 0.3-1.3% Mg, 0.3-1.0% Mn, 0.7-1.5% Sn, NOTGREATER 0.40% Bi, NOTGREATER 0.8% Fe, NOTGREATER 0.8% Si, NOTGREATER 0.5% Zn, NOTGREATER 0.15% Cr, NOTGREATER 0.20% Ti, NOTGREATER 0.05% each ( NOTGREATER 0.15% total) other elements and balance Al. |
