A radio receiver is disclosed that utilizes location-determining information (using GPS, for example) in conjunction with a database of radio formats and frequencies to maintain a consistent "radio format" as the receiver travels across several different geographic regions. The receiver may be used in a car and is thus capable of maintaining the same radio station format (e.g., "Top 40") as the car is driven long distances.
