A solar heating control system comprises a pumped water or other fluid circulation circuit having at least one solar collector, a circulating pump and a heat exchanger 5 in thermal contact with a secondary water circulation circuit, an electronic digital controller 14, a primary sensor for sensing the temperature of the flow through the solar collector, a second sensor 16 for sensing the temperature of the flow through the secondary water circulation circuit and preferably a third sensor 15 for sensing the temperature of the flow through the primary circulation circuit adjacent to and on the downstream side of the said heat exchanger. The controller is programmed such that the pump is operated so as to transfer heated water from the solar panel to the said heat exchanger through the said primary circuit and then to cease circulation to allow the said heated water to transfer heat through the said heat exchanger for a predetermined time and then to restart circulation so as to transfer the cooled water in the heat exchanger back to the solar collector.
