[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having spasmolytic and muscle-relaxant activity comprise, as active ingredient, at least one 3- or 5-pyridyloxadiazole of the general formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are optionally substituted pyridyl, alkyl, aralkyl, aralkenyl or aryl groups, at least one of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> being an optionally substituted pyridyl group, with the proviso that R<SP>2</SP> is other than a 2-chlorophenyl group when R<SP>1</SP> is a 2-ethyl-4-pyridyl group, or acid addition or quaternary ammonium salt thereof, in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable solid or liquid carrier and/or excipient and optionally at least one further pharmaceutically active agent selected from spasmolytic, antipyretic, analgesic, hypnotic and anti-rheumatic agents. The compositions may be administered orally, rectally or parenterally in the form of tablets, coated pills, suppositories, capsules, powder mixtures, solutions, emulsions, suspensions or injectable preparations. Optional additional additives to the compositions include emulsifiers, stabilising agents, wetting agents and filling agents.
