<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always decide the parameter of a medium with high accuracy without requiring the calibration of a light source and detectors by coupling the data detected from the intensity of the light source, the sensitivity of the detectors, and coupling efficiencies of light from the light source to the medium and from the medium to the detectors. SOLUTION: The first part of light is transmitted to a first detector 18 from a first source 20 through a medium and the second part of the light is transmitted to a second detector 19 from a second light source 23. Then the third part of the light is transmitted to the second detector 19 from the second light source 23 through the medium. The distance between the first light source 20 and first detector 18 is nearly equal to that between the second light source 23 and second detector 19. In addition, the fourth part of the light is transmitted to the first detector 18 from the second source 23 through the medium. The distance between the first light source 20 and second detector 19 is nearly equal to that between the second light source 23 and first detector 18. Then the parameter of the medium is decided from the intensities of the light sources 20 and 23, the sensitivity of the detectors 18 and 19, and the coupling efficiencies of light from the light sources 20 and 23 to the medium and from the medium to the detectors 18 and 19 received by means of the detectors 18 and 19.</p> |
