PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject coating material capable of giving a coating film having adequate metallic surface gloss by including a bright pigment which is prepared by crushing an evaporated metallic film into the metallic pieces. SOLUTION: This coating material contains a bright pigment, which contains a metal (e.g. aluminum, gold, silver, copper, titanium, or stainless steel) prepared by, e.g. evaporating it onto a base film to form the metallic film thereon, separating the metallic film from the base film and crushing the separated metallic film into the metallic pieces, preferably 100 to 1000Åthick. The bright pigment for the coating material preferably contains the pigment component at 15% or more (pigment weight concentration). It is preferable to spread the coating material over a base at around 0.1 to 10 g/m<2> as the bright pigment. It is also preferable that the coating material contains the bright pigment at 0.1 to 30 wt.%.
