PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multiblock copolymer which is suitable for an alignment film, has a specified inherent viscosity, and contains immiscible polymer segments by reacting two kinds of immiscible polymer segments under agitation at a specified temp. for a specified time in a mixed solvent comprising two solvents in a specified ratio. SOLUTION: Polymer segments immiscible with each other and having reactive terminal groups reactive with each other are reacted with each other under agitation at about -20 to 40 deg.C for about 1-20 hr in a mixed solvent comprising 20-80 vol.% solvent selected from among N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, N,N- dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylurea and 80-20 vol.% solvent selected from among diglyme, tetrahydrofuran, a crown ether, and tetrahydropyran to prepare a multiblock copolymer having anηinh (30 deg.C, 0.5 g/dl, in DMAc) of 0.45 or higher.
