PRODUCTION OF COATING AGENT AND OPTICAL MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a coating agent, scarcely causing coloring and capable of forming a coating film excellent in adhesiveness, water repellency, solvent resistance and mechanical characteristics and obtain an optical material. SOLUTION: This method for producing a coating agent comprises the following two steps: (I) a step for producing a solvent solution of an alkoxysilyl functional polymer by reacting (A) a polymer having 500-100,000 molecular weight and having a main chain substantially comprising at least either one of polycarbonate and polyarylate polymer and having at least two carbon-carbon unsaturated binding groups in the side chain or the end with (B) an alkoxysilane containing hydrogen atom bonded to silicon and represented by the formula H-SiR3-a (OR')a [R is 1-10C hydrocarbon group; R' is a 1-8C hydrocarbon group; (a) is 1-3] or its partial hydrolyzate in (C) an organic solvent in the presence of (D) a hydroxylated metal-based catalyst and (II) a step for reducing residual amount of a platinum-based catalyst in the alkoxysilyl-functional polymer solvent solution to <=1 ppm by an absorbent such as activated carbon.
