PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract the peak of a signal on the basis of reflection from a target by removing a virtual image appearing when performing high speed Fourier transform(FFT) processing by changing a threshold value of a frequency in the vicinity of the peak of a discriminated virtual image. SOLUTION: In a radar signal processing part 12, a reflected signal from a radar antenna 1 and a radar signal obtained from a transmission signal are converted into a digital signal so as to perform FFT processing. A power spectrum is detected to calculate a distance and a relative speed with a target so as to transmit the data to a control object recognizing part 13. In that case, the peak of a nonpeaked virtual image by a signal reflected from an actual target is discriminated from the detected peaks so that the peak of a virtual image is removed by increasing a threshold value of a frequency in the vicinity of the peak of this virtual image. Thus, the peak of a real image by the actual target is extracted to accurately detect the actual target being an inter-vehicle distance control object.
