ADAPTER ASSEMBLY FOR OPTICAL FIBER FERRULE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adapter assembly for detachably receiving two optical fiber ferrules of such a type that an open groove extends backward along the length of end surfaces of the ferrules. SOLUTION: The adapter assembly is equipped with a sleeve 26 which has an internal surface, which constitutes a passage so sized as to receive the end surface of a ferrule. The internal surface constitutes two lengthwise grooves 8 which face each other and are open to the passage. Guide pins 28 are arranged at respective grooves and exposed part of the external surfaces of the guide pins along the overall length of the guide pins in the sleeve are exposed to the passage. The exposed parts slide in the ferrule groove and are so sized and arranged as to array the end surfaces of the ferrules mutually rotatably and sideward operably when the two ferrules are inserted into the sleeve.
