PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain aγ-ray sterilizable optical fiber for UV transmission. SOLUTION: Thisγ-ray sterilizable multimode optical fiber for UV transmission has a core contg. additive-free synthetic silica, a clad contg. fluorine added synthetic silica and a metallic coating which inhibits the diffusion of hydrogen from the fiber to the outside. The metal is selected from Al, Cu, Zn, or the like. The metallic coating has a high diffusion coefft. at <=150 deg.C and a low diffusion coefft. at >=250 deg.C hydrogen filling temp. The optical fiber has a high OH content of 50-1,500 ppm and has a low OH content of <=50 ppm after treatment. Aγ-ray sterilizable multimode fiber bundle includes plural such optical fibers and aγ-ray sterilizable catheter contains at least one optical fiber or fiber bundle. |
