PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery with a high reliability with little electrolyte leakage from the battery for a long cycle of charging and discharging, maintaining charging capacity. SOLUTION: A positive electrode 5 has nickel hydroxide as a positive electrode active material, containing 5-50 wt.% of not less than one kind selected from Mn, Al, Co and Y to nickel element, and 2-15 wt.% of not less than one kind selected from sulfuric acid ion, phosphoric acid ion and carbonic acid ion to nickel hydroxide. A closed type alkaline storage battery is constituted by filling not less than 75% of the total volume of a battery can with the positive electrode 5 and a negative electrode 7 having zinc, cadmium or hydrogenated hydrogen storage alloy as a negative electrode active material. |
