PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new recombinant protein which has a specific amino acid sequence, and has an activity of inducing development of the nerve, where a gene coding for the protein is useful, for example, as a diagnostic agent and a therapeutic agent for neutral diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. SOLUTION: This is a protein having an amino acid sequence shown by the formula, or an amino acid sequence which one or more amino acid(s) is/are deleted from, substituted in, or inserted into the amino acid sequence shown by the formula, and a new recombinant protein having an activity of inducing development of the nerve. A gene coding for the protein is useful, for example, as a diagnostic agent for neural diseases, a therapeutic agent for diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, and a probe to detect nerval diseases. This recombinant protein is obtained by isolating mRNA from tissues such as neural of Xenopus laevis, preparing a cDNA library using the obtained mRNA, screening the library using a probe having its partial gene sequence, incorporating the obtained gene into a vector, followed by expressing the gene in a host. |
