PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer that gives a leather-like composition having heat resistance and ultraviolet light resistance by consecutively conducting emulsion polymerization of a monomer component containing a butyl acrylate or the like in a plurality of polymerization vessels while adding an additional monomer component thereto and thereafter polymerizing a monomer containing styrene in a final polymerization vessel. SOLUTION: A monomer component of a butyl acrylate and other acrylates acrylonitrile, a crosslinking agent, a surfactant, a dispersant, water and a free radical generator are charged to a first polymerization vessel in which emulsion polymerization is conducted to a conversion of not less than about 80% of monomers to produce a polymerization medium having a solids content of not more than 10 wt %. Thereafter, an additional monomer component is charged to second a polymerization vessel in which the polymerization is conducted to a conversion of not less than 80% to produce a medium having a solids content of not more than 20 wt.%. Furthermore, an additional monomer component is charged to a third polymerization vessel in which the polymerization is conducted to a conversion of not less than 80% to produce a medium having a solids content of not more than 30 wt.%. Then, a monomer of styrene, additional acrylonitrile and a crosslinking agent are charged to a fourth polymerization vessel in which polymerization is conducted to a conversion of not less than 80% to recover a polymer. |
