Transfer assembly for tobacco rods

A transfer apparatus transfers double length formed tobacco rods from a rod maker to a filter tipper. Formed tobacco rods are delivered to tapered flutes (38) of a receiving drum (34) from a kicker (32) where they are retrieved and held by a series of suction holes (47) in the drum. The rods are transferred to a cutting drum (46) via an intermediate drum (44) and several rods are then separated on a separating drum (48). Filters are inserted between the separated rods on a filter drum (50).
