This invention relates to the treatment of atherosclerosis via raising the level of HDL cholesterol by administration of a compound of formula (I), wherein: R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are independently hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl or -(CH2)0-6Ph, where Ph is phenyl optionally substituted by halogen, cyano, nitro, C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, C1-C6 alkoxycarbonyl, -CO2H or OH; R<4> is hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; R<5> is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, or -(CH2)0-6Ar<1>, where Ar<1> is phenyl, naphthyl, furanyl, pyridinyl or thienyl and Ar<1> can be optionally substituted by halogen, cyano, nitro, C1-C6 alkyl, phenyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, phenoxy, trifluoromethyl, C1-C6 alkoxycarbonyl, -CO2H or OH; and Ar is phenyl, naphthyl, furanyl, pyridinyl or thienyl or Ar is optionally substituted by halogen, cyano, nitro C1-C6 alkyl, phenyl C1-C6 alkoxy, phenoxy, trifluoromethyl, C1-C6 alkoxycarbonyl, -CO2H or OH. |
