PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which is extremely rare to cause curling or cupping, even at the time of using or storing the medium under high temperature and high humidity conditions. SOLUTION: This recording medium is provided with a magnetic layer, consisting of at least two ferromagnetic metal thin film layers each of which is formed on a long-size nonmagnetic substrate by an oblique vapor deposition method and contains Co as the major component, wherein the thermal shrinkage factor of the recording medium is 0.5% or less, value of which is measured after immersing the medium in hot water at 100 deg.C for 30 min and then drying it, and the thickness of the nonmagnetic substrate is 8μm or smaller.
