PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide automatic vehicle merging controlling method and device capable of automatically and safely realizing the merging of vehicles capable of executing automatic drive. SOLUTION: The control device is provided with a control means A for inputting data such as the vehicle sort, position and speed of a vehicle, storing these data and outputting control data to the vehicle. When a merging vehicle 5 is generated, the means A determines the speed pattern of the merging vehicle 5 and a merged vehicle 3 to be a merged succeeding vehicle in a main lane. When the distance from the vehicle 3 is less than a safe distance between both vehicles, the distance between both vehicles is previously controlled by decelerating the merged vehicle 3, accelerating a preceding vehicle traveling immediately before the vehicle 3 or controlling both the speeds of the joined vehicle 3 and the preceding vehicle while judging traffic states before and after the vehicle 3, and after securing the space of a minimum distance allowing the merging of the vehicle 5 in a lane changing section 6 on a merging part, the vehicle 5 is merged. |
