PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the life of a battery without affecting too much the electrochemical performance of a battery by containing a zinc negative electrode and an additive of an organic compound made of an aromatic ring having substituents. SOLUTION: The aromatic ring of an organic compound has 1-3 substituents groups. When multiple substituents are involved, a first substituents group is the hydroxy group, a second substituent is selected from the hydroxy group, methyl group and ether group having 1-10 carbon atoms and the terminal of a hydrophilic group. Phenol, resorcinol, paracresol, or 3-methoxyphenol sulfonic acid or the like is used as an organic compound. When the compound is added, Coulomb efficiency is increased, the capacity that a zinc electrode can be reproduced in each cycle is increased, the start of hydrogen generation is delayed, and the formation of micro-dendrite is reduced. The formation of a bubble-like zinc deposit made of a very small crystals having a nonglazed external appearance are accelerated, the changing rate of the shape of the electrode is slowed, and an electrochemically active surface area is kept large. |
