PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hologram optical element having high resolution and high diffraction efficiency, excellent transparency, reproducing wavelength reproducibility and preservable stability and is further excellent chemical resistance and scratching resistance. SOLUTION: This hologram optical element 1 is formed by providing the surface of a base material 10 with a hologram layer 20, bonding the surface of a chemical reaction type adhesive layer 30, which is formed by applying a colorless and transparent chemical reaction type adhesive having a visible light transmittance of >=80% and a thickness of 1 to 100μm to a film, onto the front surface 20a of this layer and curing and peeling the hologram layer at the boundary between this chemical reaction type adhesive layer 30 and the film. The chemical reaction type adhesive layer 30 is formed by curing the adhesive by irradiation with UV rays or by adding a hardener or catalyst to this chemical reaction type adhesive and curing the adhesive by heating.
