PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor exhibiting a high capacitance and a low inner resistance by preventing generation of inner short circuits due to variations in temperature during usage. SOLUTION: An electric double layer capacitor has a positive pole polarizable electrode 1, a negative pole polarizable electrode 2 containing an electrolytic solution and a separator disposed between the positive pole polarizable electrode 1 and the negative pole polarizable electrode 2. They are housed in a space formed by an outer case 4, a cap 5 and a ring-shaped gasket 6 and the electric double layer capacitor is hermetically sealed by fastening the open end of the outer case 4 toward the inside. In this case, the periphery of the separator 3 is crimped between the ring-shaped gasket 6 and the outer case 4 or the cap 5. The periphery of one of the positive pole polarizable electrode 1 or the negative pole polarizable electrode 2 is preferably enlarged in the radial direction until the outer perimeter almost reaches the inner periphery of the outer case. |
