PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely transfer a call in a holding communication state between multimedia communication terminals without disturbing image and audio data and causing an unstable state of communication after the transfer during the communication. SOLUTION: In the case of holding/transferring a call during multimedia communication where image, audio and other data are multiplexed and the multiplexed data are sent/received via a network, each medium of its own is muted, and a holding/transfer preparation request is sent to an opposite terminal to mute each medium of the opposite terminal. Then the terminal of its own receives a hold/transfer preparation end notice from the opposite party to conduct hold/transfer and an initializing setting sequence is executed between the terminals when a new opposite party is connected or a different party is selected in the hold/transfer process.
