<p>A process for the production of polymeric material comprising: (a) providing a water-in-oil emulsion comprising a mixture of polymerisable monomers comprising at least one oil-soluble vinyl monomer and from about 2 to about 50 weight percent, based on the mixture, of a multifunctional unsaturated crosslinking monomer; at least 90 weight percent, based on the emulsion, of water as the internal phase; an effective amount to produce the water-in-oil emulsion of a surfactant comprising (A) at least one sorbitan fatty acid ester or saccharide fatty acid ester and (B) at least one quaternary salt having at least one greater than or equal to 6 carbon atoms hydrocarbon group; and a polymerisation initiator; (b) curing said polymerisable monomers under conditions effective to polymerise and crosslink the polymerisable monomers.</p> |
