PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation in jitter characteristics, the deterioration at the beginning ends and terminals of sectors, the degradation in contrast and the occurrence of a burst defect by providing the surface of a substrate as a recording medium for executing recording and erasing of information by irradiation with light with at least a first dielectric layer/recording layer/second dielectric layer/reflection layer moreover disposing a layer consisting of an oxide between the recording layer and the first dielectric layer. SOLUTION: The representative constitution of the component members of the optical recording medium is obtd. by laminating the first dielectric layer, the oxide recording layer, the second dielectric layer and the reflection layer in this order on the transparent substrate. The material of the first dielectric layer is substantially transparent to recording light wavelengths and the material having the refractive index larger than the refractive index of the transparent substrate and smaller than the refractive index of the recording layer is preferable. The film of the oxide is required to be disposed between the first dielectric layer and the recording layer. The degradation in the jitter characteristics may be improved by such disposition. The oxide of the element selected from a group 2A to a group 4B of a third period and from group 2A to a group 4B of a fourth period of the periodic table is used as the essential component of the oxide. |
