PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM transmission method that increases kinds of error correction codes so as to enhance a transmission efficiency and to reduce a data abandon rate and to provide a communication system. SOLUTION: In the radio communication method by which an ATM cell is sent through a radio channel, plural kinds of error correction codes are added to the unit of ATM cells and the resulting cells are sent are plural radio cells and plural kinds of error correction code decoders receive the radio cells to demodulate the original ATM cells. Furthermore, the radio communication system where ATM cells are sent through radio channels is provided with an ATM header detection section 1 that detects a header of the ATM cell and separates it into proper error correction codes, plural kinds of encoders 3 that decode different error correction codes by adding the error correction codes to the ATM cell to form radio cells, a radio frame section 4 that reads one frame consisting of plural of radio cells, and a radio output section that modulates a frame in the unit of one frame and provides an output.
