A furniture esp. shelf assembly system links adjacent boards at right angles to each other by a profiled extrusion (10) with an essentially X-shaped cross section, placed edge to edge. The profile (10) has flat faces presented saddle-fashion on the board edges. A self-tapping screw (34) has a toothed (36) head (34) which is inserted through the profiled side-arm (14) and tightened by insertion of a threaded (22) bolt (20).
