Strips (7) are cut to a desired length from a plastic plate and contact faces between strips are prepared for bonding the latter to form a frame (6a, 6b). An Independent claim is made for a plate element comprising a carrier plate (2) with a plastic frame (6a, 6b) manufactured according to the claimed process mounted on one or both sides around an opening (3) to retain a glass pane (9). Preferred Features: Strips (7) of constant breadth are cut along the whole length or breadth of the rectangular plastic plate and then cut to length with mitered ends. A profile is milled into the visible surfaces of the strips. Adhesive is dripped onto the frame joints after bonding to ensure complete filling of the latter.
