BENZENESULPHONAMIDE DERIVATIVES AS PYRUVATE DEHYDROGENASE ACTIVATORS

The use of a compound of formula (I) wherein: either R<1> and R<2> are each selected independently from hydrogen, C1-3alkyl, pyridyl and optionally substituted phenyl or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a ring; A-B is selected from NHCO, OCH2, SCH2, NHCH2, trans-vinylene and ethynylene; R<3> and R<4> are independently C1-3alkyl optionally substituted fluoro and chloro or together form a ring optionally substituted with fluoro; and R<5> is hydrogen, C1-4alkyl, C1-4haloalkyl, C1-4alkoxy, C1-4haloalkoxy, cyano, nitro, C2-4alkenyloxy or trifluoromethylthio; in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the elevation of PDH activity in warm-blooded animals such as humans is described. Salts and esters of compounds of formula (I) are also described.
